The world of natural sweeteners is growing beyond honey and maple syrup. For those who prefer to bake with an alternative to sugar, Azure Market Organics Inulin Powder adds a mild sweetness without the aftertaste.

Extracted from the blue agave plant in Mexico, organic agave inulin powder is a low-glycemic sweetener with a rich nutrient profile. Not only is it a perfect substitute for sugar, but it is also an excellent source of dietary fiber and acts as a prebiotic to support intestinal health. It promotes digestive health by serving as a prebiotic that aids the good bacteria in our gut. With 10 grams of dietary fiber in a one-ounce serving, agave inulin is considered a "super fiber." Agave inulin also supports bone health by increasing the body's absorption of calcium and magnesium. As an inulin, it has a very low impact on blood sugar levels making it ideal for diabetics or those trying to lower their blood sugar.

Perfect for baking, inulin helps keep moisture in while refining texture and flavor. Because it's highly soluble in cold water and has a neutral taste, it’s a perfect option for sweetening iced tea and other cold drinks. Experiment to find the amount of sweetness that works best for you.

  • Gluten Free
  • Inulin can become hard due to moisture evaporating from the inulin, just like with regular sugars. If the inulin arrives hard to soften place in a microwave safe container with a damp paper towel over the top and microwave for 20 seconds at a time till soft.

Azure Market Organics Inulin Powder is an all-natural, USDA Certified Organic inulin/fructooligosaccharide. This powder product is obtained by physical extraction and purification of the branched fructans occurring naturally in the Blue Agave plant, Tequilana Weber.

Inulins are a group of naturally occurring polysaccharides produced by many types of plants. They belong to a class of fibers known as fructans. Plants that contain high concentrations of inulin include Agave, Jerusalem artichoke, chicory, onion and garlic, to name just a few. Inulin is increasingly used in processed foods because of its beneficial characteristics. Inulin is a white flow-able powder that is about 10% to 20% the sweetness of sugar (sucrose). It can also come in liquid form that has a much shorter shelf-life and must be kept refrigerated.

INULIN NUTRITION

In terms of nutrition, Inulin is considered a form of soluble/insoluble fiber and is used in many food products to increase the level of fiber. Many popular food products ranging from cereals to health bars use Inulin as the primary fiber ingredient. Because Inulin is 90% + inulin fiber, it is a good ingredient to enhance fiber levels.

PREBIOTIC EFFECT

Inulin is a prebiotic and stimulates the growth of beneficial bacteria in the gut Inulin passes through the stomach and duodenum undigested and is highly available to the gut bacterial flora. This makes it similar to resistant starches and other fermentable carbohydrates.

AGAVE INULIN VS. CHICORY & JERUSALEM ARTICHOKE

The Blue Agave plant is a succulent plant belonging to the Lily family. It is planted and harvested in five to 10 years depending on the use of the plant. Most agave from inulin is harvested from 5 to 7 years.

No Seeds are grown or processed to plant agave. Shoots from the adult plant are used and hand planted for new crops. The cropland the agave thrives in is very harsh making it unsuitable for most plants, so no good cropland is used up in the production of agave. No fertilizer is used or needed for the agave plant to grow so no energy is used to produce, transport or apply pesticides. No tilling of the topsoil is done when agave is planted, so no energy is used and no erosion of the top soil takes place. Planting is done by hand and only once in 5 to 10 years. Chicory and Jerusalem artichoke have to be planted, tilled, fertilized and harvested every year. Harvesting is done by hand and other than transport by truck to the factory which is very close that is the only energy used.

Distance from the product source to customers in the U.S. is vastly closer than Europe or Asia.

The agave plant is very hearty and draught tolerant, making it a highly sustainable crop unlike chicory or Jerusalem artichoke, which have run into problems over the past several years with draught and shortages. This makes it hard for customers to rely on a steady supply.

Special Precautions & Warnings: Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Not enough is known about the use of inulin during pregnancy and breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid use.
