The Science Behind Digestion and Pepsin’s Role

• HCl in the Symbiotic Relationship: HCl, naturally produced by our stomach’s parietal cells, has various functions in digestion. Its acidic nature (maintaining stomach pH between 1.5-3.5) is needed for initiating protein breakdown. HCl also acts as a defense mechanism against ingested pathogens.*
