In this cookbook, Lorraine (Roo) Carlstrom shares her journey back to health by changing to a traditional diet. A couple key changes was the inclusion of bone broth soups and sourdough sides. You will be guided through the recipes with detailed instructions, interesting stories, eating tips and gorgeous photos. The recipes were inspired from friends, family and a life spent playing in nature in both Canada and the United States. Lorraine has paired a diverse collection of soups, chowders and stews with complementary sourdough sides. Most of the recipes encourage using local farm-to-table ingredients. Some delicious and creative dishes in this cookbook includes Mt. Hood Chili with Skier’s Corn Muffins, Kokanee Borscht with Scottish Oat Bread, Pacific Salmon Chowder with Cashew-Pumpkin Crackers and Dad’s Sourdough pancakes with Canadian maple syrup.
Lorraine (Roo) Carlstrom has been interested in food most of her life. She has been involved in many roles including; cooking at a backcountry cabin in the Canadian Rockies, volunteering at organic farms, serving as a Chapter Leader for the Weston A. Price Foundation and teaching cooking classes. She studied and became a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Her most important role has been feeding her family. She currently lives in Hood River, Oregon with her husband, Brian. They have two grown children, Logan and Kenzie. When Lorraine is not in the kitchen she can be found windsurfing, skiing, ebiking, hiking, walking or reading cookbooks in her bath tub.
