These mushrooms are very popular in Asian cooking for their taste and health benefits. Shiitake mushrooms are grown on 100% natural oak, and they are naturally air-dried with no chemicals or pesticides used in the growing or drying process. Very economical: Dried Shiitake are less than half the price of fresh Shiitake with twice the flavor. These mushrooms will keep for a long time in your freezer so keep some on hand.
Use Shiitake Mushrooms in stir-frys, soups, rice dishes, or any dish you want with Shiitake flavor. Simply soak them in hot tap water for 10 min. or so, rinse, blot, slice if appropriate, and add to your dish.
These mushrooms are considered to be MEDIUM STRONG on the Mushroom Flavor Scale.
Shiitake mushrooms have long been recognized as a very good, non-animal food source of iron. All mushrooms contain substantial nutrients, including protein, enzymes, B vitamins (especially niacin), and vitamin D2. Mushrooms are excellent sources of antioxidants as they contain polyphenols and selenium, which are common in the plant world. But they also contain antioxidants that are unique to mushrooms, such as ergothioneine, which scientists are now beginning to recognize as a “master antioxidant.”

How to Prepare: Soak in hot water for 2 to 3 minutes. Strain and then pat with a paper towel and use them as fresh.
Sauté in butter, garlic and wine for 3 to 4 minutes and add to your favorite dish. You will be delighted.
Tips: 1 oz of dried mushrooms is equal to 8 oz fresh. Save the soak water for soups, stews and gravies. WOW it is packed with flavor! (Careful not to use sediment). Dried mushrooms are a great value for your dollar. Drying intensifies their flavor and they can stored indefinitely in your freezer.
*These dried mushrooms are harvested from the wild forests all over the world. When the mushrooms are sliced and Naturally Air Dried sometimes some grit or dirt is still on the dried mushroom. When you rehydrate the mushrooms in hot water this grit or dirt will sink to the bottom of the soak water. The soak water has tons of flavors in it we recommend using it in your cooking but be careful not to use any sediment, grit that sinks to the bottom.
