When it comes to maintaining seasonal wellness, echinacea is an essential supportive herb during the winter cold. The key to echinacea's medicinal benefits lies deep in its compounds, which, depending on the species, include varying amounts of alkylamides, polysaccharides, and glycoproteins-all of which contribute to the herb's affinity for the immune system.

Echinacea's beneficial compounds are found in all parts of the plant, but are most concentrated in the roots. The tingly alkylamine molecules in echinacea which fire up immunity are best preserved in ethanolic extracts. The polysaccharides and glycoproteins fortify the immune system over time and are best extracted with hot water, making a hot tea one of the best ways to enjoy the benefits of this herb. Directions

Brew Well to be Well. For maximum benefit, herbal tea must be properly prepared. Pour 8 oz. freshly boiled water over a tea bag in a cup. Cover cup and steep 10-15 minutes. These steps directly influence the amount of beneficial components that will end up in your teacup! Gently squeeze the tea bag to release any remaining extract. Drink 3 or more cups daily or as needed. To enhance benefits, add honey, especially in dry climates.

Cautions: Consult a healthcare provider prior to use if you have hypokalemia, rheumatoid arthritis, and autoimmune disorder or a progressive systemic disease, such as tuberculosis, leukosis, collagenosis, multiple sclerosis, AIDS, HIV infection; if you are taking immunosuppressants, or any kind of hormonal therapies, diuretics, potassium depleting agents, or MAO inhibitors.

Contraindications: Do not use if you have known allergies to plants of the Asteraceae (daisy) family such as Arnica, calendula, chamomile, echinacea, or yarrow.
